Conductor, pianist and composer Simon Bruckard is an active member of the music industry in Australia. He works regularly with Opera Australia and Victorian Opera in Melbourne and Sydney. For Victorian Opera he has conducted Hansel and Gretel and three world premieres. He will return to the company in 2019 to conduct their season of Alice Through the Opera Glass.
Simon is currently composing an adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Selfish Giant which will be performed in October as a part of Victorian Opera’s 2019 season.
In 2018 Simon worked on Opera Australia’s touring production of Madama Butterfly and was a member of music staff for the Sydney season of Wozzeck. He also assisted Simone Young in her performance of Ariadne auf Naxos in Brisbane for the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School.
In February Simon conducted La Bohème in an outdoor performance for Stonnington Council’s Opera in the Park program. He will return to Opera Australia in June to tour northern Australia with their production of Madama Butterfly before returning to Melbourne to conduct the premiere of his new work The Selfish Giant.
